Who Are We? A Lesson in Spiritual Genetics…DNA

The Baptist Student Union Christian Challenge at New Mexico State is committed to taking the gospel to our campus and to the universities of the world. We are strongly involved in making disciple–makers through one–to–one covenant relationships. In addition, we train students to share the gospel on our campus. Thirdly, we mobilize students toward a global world view. Of course we have some fun. We do retreats, intramurals, worship, game nights, road trips, theme parties, etc. It’s a great place to invest your life!

Principles…Our DNA

  • The glory of God is the central aspect of our life and ministry. We believe that God has moved throughout history to display the greatness of His glory for the benefit of His creation. As Romans 11:36 declares, “For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever! Amen.” (Compare also: Numbers 25:11; Isaiah 43:7; Isaiah 48:9–11; Ezekiel 36:22–23; Habakkuk 2:14; Romans 11:34–36)
  • God's heart for all the people groups of the earth is clearly evident throughout scripture. In the great commission of Matthew 28, Jesus commands His followers to, “make disciples of all the nations.” We want to make sure that we are involved personally and corporately in His global purpose. (See also: Genesis 12:1–3; Psalm 67; Matthew 28:18–20; Revelation 7:9–10)
  • The call to follow Jesus is a call to spiritual multiplication. We follow the model of Jesus as we invest our lives into the lives of others. That is our conviction (see above). A guiding verse is II Timothy 2:2, which says, “And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others.” (See also: Philippians 3:17; Philippians 4:9; 1 Thessalonians 1:7; 1 Thessalonians 2:19–20)
  • Personal evangelism is an essential foundation of our faith. We take personal responsibility to share the gospel with our classmates, our friends, our families, and those God puts us into contact with each day. We equip each other, encourage each other, and hold each other accountable so that Colossians 4:6 is true of us: “Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” (See also: Ezekiel 33:7–9; Matthew 9:36–38; Romans 10:14–15; Colossians 4:2–6)
